DEFINITION

According to the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA), a dietary supplement is a product taken by mouth that contains a "dietary ingredient" intended to supplement the diet. Also known as food supplement or nutritional supplement, is a preparation intended to provide nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals, fiber, fatty acids or amino acids, that are missing or are not consumed in sufficient quantity in a person's diet. They may be in any form; tablets, capsules, liquids, gel-caps, or powders.
